Three domains organise research around public questions

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam presents research through three main domains: health and well-being, climate and environment, and justice and resilience. These domains are broad enough to bring different disciplines into conversation, but they do not erase the distinction between a laboratory study, a field investigation, a social analysis, or a legal question. A climate topic may concern ecological change, energy, adaptation, human behaviour, or governance. A health topic may involve biology, care, lifestyle, mental health, or education. Begin with the question itself, then use the domain as a way to find the research group, institute, researcher, or facility where the work becomes specific.

The university describes researchers working in flexible collaborations with societal partners and across disciplines and perspectives. That is useful context for a question that needs more than one form of expertise. It is not evidence that every project has the same partner, method, or public route. A local page has to show the actual connection. VU Amsterdam's research material also places value on responsible open science and attention to ethical and legal dilemmas.
