Four research themes link technology, environment, society, and health
Aston University presents research through four themes: Digital Futures, Cleantech, Inclusive Growth, and HealthTech. Digital Futures brings together artificial intelligence, data, and emerging technologies. Cleantech focuses on low-carbon innovation. Inclusive Growth addresses fairer economies and communities, while HealthTech connects healthcare with technology, data, and patient-centred innovation. These themes give a clear initial structure for a question that crosses a technical and social boundary. They do not describe one shared research method. A data question may be about health, economy, or environmental systems, and each route needs its own local evidence.
The university's research material describes connections among students, academics, industry leaders, and diverse perspectives. It also makes innovation and entrepreneurship visible alongside academic work. This can be relevant when a question includes the development or use of a technology outside a laboratory. The public framing does not establish that all projects take a commercial or industry route. Six research institutes and three colleges create separate research routes
